We love to sprinkle some “reindeer food” on the lawn on Christmas Eve to help Santa’s reindeer find our house. My kids enjoy making it, giving it away to friends, and then of course, using it themselves on Christmas Eve. It also makes a fun gift for teachers to give to their students!
Reindeer Food: Oats and gold glitter and put in a bag. There is some controversy about the glitter being bad for the animals, so if you’re concerned, you can substitute the glitter with sugar crystals. We like to use both red and green.
Instructions: I make this into a cute tag to attach to the bag.
Be sure to take this magic food
And sprinkle it on the lawn.
On Christmas, Santa’s reindeer
Travel miles before the dawn.
The smell of oats and glitter path
Will guide them on their way.
And you’ll wake up to Santa’s gifts
Next morn on Christmas day!
After the kids are in bed, we always go out and put “hoof tracks” around the food (in the snow). We use the back of a broom. We also push some of the food down like it’s been eaten. Keepin’ the magic alive!
