Elf on a Shelf

Ever heard of Elf on a Shelf?! It sounds so magical, and something I’ve wanted to add to our holiday traditions for years. I need to get on it! The jist of it is this: You place an elf doll some place in your house. The elf needs a name, and when your children name it, the elf’s magic comes on. The trick?! They cannot touch the elf! He watches your children throughout the day and uses his magic to report back to Santa each night: to tell Santa whether they’ve been naughty or nice. Every morning, the elf is hiding in a new location for the kids to find! How fun is this?!

Here’s the official website, complete with a book (it takes a bit to load). I think you could do this with any elf doll though. Do any of you do this in your homes?

(**I couldn’t get the picture from the website to load so this one is from Amazon. Click on the picture for the link.)

  1. My mother-in-law got the kids an elf last year – they loved it and were equally excited for “Sixer’s” return this year. My 5 year old talks to him and is very excited to run down the stairs each morning to see what he is sitting. Very magical indeed. 🙂
