Caterpillar Counting

Another open-ended activity! You could do this with numbers or letters, or adapt it a bit for other skills. Name recognition is also good; you could have your children put the letters in their name in the correct order. This could also be fun for learning spelling words. Today, I will show how to play it with numbers.

Preparation:

1. Cut a bunch of circles out of construction paper. I made mine the same size. I also cut mine so that they formed a pattern when completed the correct way.

2. Draw a cute caterpillar face on one.

3. Put one number on each circle (I did 1 to 9).

Activity:

Lay out all the circles and have your child build a caterpillar with them by putting the circles in numerical order.

(This is a great activity for centers!)

  1. We are doing “time” in preschool right now. I think I will cut out circles and draw a clock on each, and then they can put them in order from 1 o’clock to 12 o’clock. As always, thanks for your great ideas!

    • Fun way to adapt the activity I shared!! Thanx for passing along your idea, Gina! I always love to see how my readers are using these.
