Number Game

This is actually what we called it. Kinda boring title, but it’s a good one! This one takes a bit of time and a lot of work for your children, but reinforces some great concepts.

1. I provide each child with huge numbers 1 through 9. Each number is the size of a normal sheet of paper. Their first task is to cut out each number. I help on “tricky” spots. This is great for fine motor skills, as well as learning the shape of the numbers.

2. The next task is to find the number I call out. Once it is found, we place a corresponding sticker on each number. So, we would put 1 sticker on #1, 2 stickers on #2, etc. I have each child check the stickers by counting.

3. They are now ready to do the activities (this is homework):

         a.  Count the stickers on each number, touching each one.

         b.  Put the numbers in order, smallest to biggest. (1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9)

         c.  Put the numbers in order, biggest to smallest. (9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1)

They seem to really like this game because they put so much time into it!

  1. Love this idea too!
