Snowman Craft

We’re making these cute snowmen today. (I can’t remember where I got the idea from; I found it in my files.) Your children will need a little bit of help, but it’s a fun project!

You could make them into magnets for your fridge by putting a magnetic strip on the back, but we just used ours as puppets.

3 white pom poms

2 googly eyes

felt (I let my children choose the colors: you will need some for the scarf, hat, and buttons)

thin marker to trace on felt

something for the nose (tip of an orange crayon, clay, felt, construction paper; we used a pipe cleaner)

popsicle stick

glue (we used Elmer’s on most of it so it was kid-friendly, but I did have to use the glue gun, as well)

1. Glue the 3 pom poms to the popsicle stick, as shown.

2. Make a scarf 1/2-inch wide by 8-inches long. (I made mine a bit thinner.) Tie it around the snowman’s neck.

3. Glue on the googly eyes.

4. Cut buttons out of the felt and glue on.

5. Attach the carrot nose.

6. Cut a rectangle out black felt 3-inches by 4-inches long. Glue the short ends together to make the hat. (This was WAY too tall for my liking. Mine ended up being 1-inch by 3 inches.)

7. This is hard to explain, and I couldn’t get a good picture so hopefully you understand. Trace around the top of the hat to make a circle. Cut out and glue on one end. (I had to pull out the glue gun for this part.)

8. Trace around the bottom of the hat, making the circle slightly bigger for a brim. Cut out.

9. Stuff the hat slightly with felt scraps to help it keep the shape.

10. Glue the brim to the bottom of the hat.

11. Glue the hat onto the snowman’s head.

12. Let dry!

Another fun activity: Make 5 of these snowmen, and do the following poem.

5 little snowmen standing in a row,

Each with a hat, and a big red bow.

Out came the sun, and it stayed all day,

And the first little snowman melted away!

(repeat with each snowman)

  1. Thanks for the great ideas Angee! We are finally back to somewhat of a schedule so I plan on doing some of these crafts this week.

  2. Another great snowman craft:
