Stories for Snuggling: Pirates

My son has become obsessed with pirates these past couple of weeks. He requested a pirate-themed birthday party and has been role-playing constantly. His room is covered with drawings of him fighting the pirates and drawings of treasure maps. He wears his homemade pirate clothes all day, and even sleeps in them at night! It’s all that he can think about! So, with that in mind, that is why I chose this book about pirates, one we have read many times in the past month. I posted this book over at Blissfully Domestic a couple of months ago with a corresponding activity, if you’re interested in checking that out, but I had to post this book here, too!

How I Became a Pirate

How I Became a Pirate by Melinda Long

Jeremy Jacob is playing innocently by the beach, when he is captured by pirates! He goes along, thinking a pirate’s life is pretty great! They don’t have to use table manners, they don’t have to take a bath, and they have no bedtime. What more could a young kid ask for?! Then, it’s bedtime, and no one reads Jeremy Jacob a bedtime story or tucks him in. That’s when he realizes that he misses home. So, he suggests that the pirates bury their treasure in his backyard. And… he makes it home for soccer practice!

Kid-friendly, non-scary book. Gives kids a glimpse into pirate life from a child’s perspective. Love it!
