Crayon Resist Ocean Painting

So, this idea didn’t turn out exactly how I wanted it to, but that’s okay. The kids had a blast, and their pictures are cute. That’s what’s most important, right?!

Have your children draw an ocean inspired picture with crayons. They’ll need to push hard, which can be hard for the littlest kids. I also found that the brighter the colors, the better the picture. We discussed things you would find in the ocean before we began, which got their creative juices flowing.

After their pictures are complete, have them watercolor over the pictures with blue paint. The crayons are supposed to resist the paint and make their pictures pop! A beautiful ocean scene!

Here is my 4-year-old’s. He chose a blue crayon, which made it hard to see with the blue paint. He wouldn’t trade it for another so I took what I could get! 🙂  He drew waves, bubbles, an octopus, and some fish.

Here is my 2-year-old’s. She drew fish and a mermaid. The pink crayon looks really good and bright, although it’s hard to see in this picture! She then drew on top of her picture with crayon. Oops!

If you do this, I’d love to see a picture. Leave me a link in the comment section.
