Let’s Go Fishin’!

No fish unit would be complete without the classic fishing game! Kids LOVE this game!

I made my pole by wrapping yarn around a wooden dowel and attaching a magnet to the bottom. My fish are just copies in many different colors of a fish I found. I put a paper clip on top so the kids can catch the fish! Simple.

This activity has multiple educational uses besides the fun! You could reinforce colors by having your children tell you which color fish they caught. You could write numbers or letters on the back. You could write simple words for them to sound out, such as cat and dog. You could also put sight words on the back. For older children, you could write math facts or spelling words and have your children tell you the answers. I have also done movement activities on the back, such as hop on one foot. Heck, you could even write chores on the back and let your child go fishing for their chore! The possibilities are endless!
