Nursery Rhyme Box

Although this could have fit on Wednesday, I wanted to save it for my final Nursery Rhyme post of the week. It’s like the “grand finale!”

Make a Nursery Rhyme Box. When I taught preschool, I put this in my drama area. If you’re at home, you could put it some place in your child’s room.

After learning a bunch of nursery rhymes, put the props into a box for easy access. These can be very simple, but add hours of entertainment and learning! For older children, you could provide the words to the nursery rhymes for them to refer to. This is a lot of fun and definitely reinforces the rhymes!

Here are some ideas:

Who Stole the Cookie?:  cookie jar and cookie to steal

Jack Be Nimble: candlestick to jump over

Baa, Baa Black Sheep: 3 bags to carry

Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star: sparkly star wand to wave around

Muffin Man: muffin tin and apron

Jack and Jill: pail, cap for Jack, apron or skirt for Jill

Little Miss Muffet: bowl with spoon, pillow for tuffet, and headband with paper strips on the side for spider

It’s Raining, It’s Pouring: blanket and pillow

Old Mother Hubbard: play cupboard (or box) and stuffed dog

Little Bo Peep: sheep (paper or stuffed) to hide and find

Mary, Mary Quite Contrary: watering can

**What else could you do?
