Muffin Man

Muffin Man

Do you know the muffin man?

The muffin man? The muffin man?

Do you know the muffin man

Who lives on Drury Lane?

Oh, my! Another favorite! If you know it, be sure to teach your children the song. Songs often help kids learn things quicker and retain them longer. And this song, in particular, is so catchy!

Dress your child up like a muffin man. Provide an apron, a chef’s hat, or whatever you have. Also, be sure to include a muffin tin (and hot pad). Let your children act out the nursery rhyme as they recite it over and over. This is a good one for taking turns because they have to recite as they wait their turn. I was amazed by the creativity of some of my students–some who created their own oven, or pretended the muffins were hot, etc!

It would also be fun to dress as the muffin man yourself and hand out real muffins to each student! If you’re not in a classroom setting, you could simply make muffins with your children at home and act this rhyme out with those. Whenever we make muffins, my son always asks, “Mom. Do you know the muffin man?” Too cute!
