It Looked Like Spilt Milk

As you can see, we’re focusing on spring this week. This is a fun book about clouds!

It Looked Like Spilt Milk by Charles G. Shaw

“Sometimes it looked like a sheep. But it wasn’t a sheep.” So, what is it?! This is a fabulous book about finding pictures in the clouds, but you don’t find out that’s what it is until the end. All of the pictures are set against a bright blue background. Perfect for reading aloud!

Cloud watching: It looks like a dinosaur to us.

Do it yourself! Get some bright blue paper and let your child create their own cloud shape. You can use cotton balls, paper that is torn, chalk, paint, whatever suits your fancy! Be sure to write the words, “Sometimes it looked like a ____________. But it wasn’t a ____________. It was just a cloud in the sky.”

If you want to be extra ambitious, have your child do a couple of pages and staple (or bind) them into a book. Kids love reading books that they have written! What a great way to motivate reading!

It's R2-D2 (completed by 5-year-old)

  1. We did this book at story time and they had a felt board with a felt item to match each of the items that the clouds resembled in the story. The felt items were passed out to each of the children and as the story was read each child had a turn to bring up their item and put it on the felt board. The kids loved it!

  2. Love it!! What a great idea!
