Leprechaun Traps

Leprechauns are all around on St. Patrick’s Day. Begin a fun tradition by having your children make leprchaun traps!!

Background:

Most children aren’t quite sure what leprechauns are so you’ll need to give them a bit of background. Find some books at the library or look for pictures on the internet.

Leprechauns are small in size. Some say they have red beards and top hats. They are very tricky fellows and like to play tricks on people! They are also very messy fellows.

Leprechauns are shoe makers. You can always tell leprechauns are near if you can hear their hammers tapping.

Each leprechaun has a pot of gold hidden. If you catch a leprechaun, he will take you to his gold in exchange for his freedom! Remember leprechauns are tricky fellows so you have to be very creative and tricky when trying to catch one.

Ideas for traps:

There is no right or wrong way to build a trap. Leprechauns like gold, rainbows, shamrocks, the color green, and shiny things so those might be good to use in your trap.

Activity:

Have your child make a leprechaun trap. While your child is busy, quietly mess up the trap, leave a slight mess behind, and leave a pile of “gold” (golden wrapped candy, such as Rolo’s and Reese’s). It’s also fun to leave green footprints around the room, as well as lots of glitter. I also like to leave a scrap of the leprechaun’s “pants” in the window (a green scrap of fabric).

Have fun and enjoy the magic of childhood!
